A public library director or library staff member is able to:
- effectively coordinate the relationship between a library and its community
- articulate the relevance of the Library Bill of Rights to library service
- uphold the customer’s right to privacy
- articulate the necessity of providing equitable customer service to library users
- defend the right to access library information
- expand services for culturally diverse populations
- promote intellectual freedom in libraries
- articulate the values and ethics of public librarianship
- explain the principles of information literacy and the role those principles play in public library service.
