A public library director or library staff member is able to:
- develop and maintain library collections based on the needs of the community served
- evaluate materials in all formats using appropriate review sources
- identify library publishers, vendors and local sources for purchasing materials
- evaluate data, including circulation statistics and requests, on a regular basis to help determine the allotment of funds for all formats and subject areas
- select materials in various formats for appropriate ages, developmental stages and interests
- follow trends in traditional and digital publishing
