A public library director or library staff member is able to:
- use standard assessment and weeding techniques to maintain a vital, current and attractive collection
- showcase library resources with special displays
- implement procedures to evaluate materials already in the collection for retention, replacement, rebinding, weeding and duplication
- establish procedures to eliminate weeded materials from library records
- perform basic, simple repair of materials in various formats
- identify items of historic value which need preservation and conservation
