- Old policy : "All weeding shall be done in accordance with the CKLS policies as set forth in the "Crew Manual." No memorial gifts are to be weeded or sold."
- New policy: "In order to maintain a vital, current collection, which meets the needs of out community, worn and obsolete materials are continuously weeded. (Weeding is the removal of material from the collection.) Materials may also be weeded if they are little used or superseded by a new edition or better work on the same subject."The Adult Librarian assumes the responsibility for weeding the adult collection. The Children's Librarian assumes the responsibility for weeding the children's collection."The following guidelines will be used.
"The following sources will be used to aid in the weeding process: Crew Manual, Public Library Catalog, Fiction Catalog, Junior and Senior High School Catalog and Children's Catalog."Materials that were purchased by memorial funds or donated as a memorial will not be weeded. However, such items may be replaced with a new copy of comparable quality if the original is badly worn."Literary classics, genealogy materials and Lincoln County information and history will not be weeded. However, such items may be replaced with a new copy of comparable quality if the original is badly worn. "Materials should be removed when it is determined that they contain information that is out-of-date, factually inaccurate or if the illustrations are outmoded. "Non-print materials should be removed when it is determined that the technical quality is poor: (a) when visuals are poor, faded or off-color, or (b) when sound reproductions are faulty or inferior."Materials should be removed when it is determined that they are no longer of value or of interest to the public and thus not circulating. Back issues of magazines will be weeded when there is no longest space in the Library for them.
"Weeded materials, which are in good condition, will be put in the book sale. Other weeded materials will be taken to Stop & Shop or recycling, depending on their condition. Proceeds from the disposal of weeded materials will go toward purchasing new circulating materials."
